Chapter 126 – I wanted to see the path of the girl I like
First, we headed to the museum’s reception to pay for the entrance fee. It made sense that it wouldn’t be free, but the price was quite affordable. However, it made me wonder how Cecilia felt to be paying money to enter a place where something of hers would be on display.
“I’ll pay for Cecilia’s entry.” [Youki]
At my sudden statement, Cecilia, who had been quietly preparing to pay for her share, looked at me with wide eyes.
“Huh? No, I’ll pay for myself.” [Cecilia]
“Two tickets, please.” [Youki]
“Y-Y-Youki-san!?” [Cecilia]
Ignoring her protest, I paid for both of our entrance fees. The receptionists couldn’t care less about our little dispute as long as the fees were paid for, so they didn’t involve themselves. After paying, we moved on.
“…Two tickets.” [Happiness]
Happiness, who was behind me, seemed to have the same idea and did the same for Raven. The latter appeared even more surprised than Cecilia as he tried to stop her, but his memo writing couldn’t keep up.
“Youki-san, about the entrance fee…” [Cecilia]
“I always enjoyed your tea. It’s not nearly enough, but how about considering this as a little compensation for that?” [Youki]
“…I understand. In that case, please look forward to some more delicious tea.” [Cecilia]
“I’m definitely looking forward to it!” [Youki]
Cecilia and I ended up making plans to meet naturally. On the other hand, Raven and Happiness were having a different kind of exchange. Raven tried to hand over the money while showing a note that read, ‘Take it’, but Happiness ignored him. As she turned away, she wrote a note of her own which she handed to Raven. The note simply said, ‘Not needed’.
“…Thanks.” [Happiness]
What did she thank him for? Even Raven looked puzzled, so he might have been just as clueless.
“…For that one time.” [Happiness]
When was that? I wanted to jump in and ask, but I didn’t want to intrude on their little world. There seemed to be a strange atmosphere forming around those two.
“What are you two doing? If you’re just standing by the entrance, it’s going to bother the other visitors. Come on, let’s move along.” [Duke]
Duke gave them a nudge as he led Irene-san inside. Raven reluctantly followed, and we all managed to regroup.
“Now, where should we start looking?” [Youki]
“Youki-san, let’s go this way.” [Cecilia]
“Wait, hold on. Are we splitting up?” [Youki]
Although I was slightly confused, I decided to go with the flow since having Cecilia grabbing onto my arm wasn’t so bad. Raven also started moving, pulling Happiness with him, an assertive move that was very unlike him. I had thought we were supposed to be keeping an eye on them, but oh well. I decided to focus on my own date instead.
“…Sorry about that. It was so sudden.” [Cecilia]
“No, it’s fine. So, what’s around here?” [Youki]
Looking around, I saw swords, armour, shields, and other weapons and gear on display.
“This section showcases replicas of the weapons and armours used by past heroes and their companions.” [Cecilia]
“Hmm… so from past generations, huh?” [Youki]
That probably meant that the battle between the heroes and demon lords had been going on for a long time.
Which generation of heroes is Yuuga? Although, it doesn’t really matter. I’m sure he’ll be remembered, in some way, at least.
“What about Cecilia’s staff?” [Youki]
“It’s here. If you go further in, you’ll see it on display.” [Cecilia]
“All right, let’s go.” [Youki]
“Youki-san, you’ve seen the real staff I use, haven’t you? So, what’s the point in seeing the replica?” [Cecilia]
“Heh, that’s because… oops, never mind.” [Youki]
I had decided to behave today, so I clamped my mouth shut. Cecilia seemed puzzled, probably because I was acting strange.
I am different from my usual self today.
“Is something wrong?” [Cecilia]
“No, I’m fine. I’ve seen the real one, but I’d like to see it displayed up close.” [Youki]
“Is that so…” [Cecilia]
“Well, don’t you think it’s amazing to have a replica of your weapon displayed in a place like this? It’s nothing like just keeping it in your mansion.” [Youki]
Cecilia’s name would be passed down as a member of the hero’s party, and the equipment she used would be preserved as a part of that legacy.
“Um, well…” [Cecilia]
“Come on, let’s go.” [Youki]
Cecilia seemed to have a mixed reaction, but there shouldn’t be anything embarrassing if they were just weapons and armours. It wasn’t like we were going to look at her statues instead.
As we moved further in, we got closer to the weapons and armour exhibition, and we finally arrived at the section displaying the equipment used by the hero, Yuuga, and his party.
“…Yeah, this is the gear from that time.” [Youki]
The robe and staff Cecilia had when I first met her at the Demon Lord’s castle. It felt strangely nostalgic as if quite some time had passed since then.
“Seeing replicas of my own weapon… makes me feel conflicted. I wonder why.” [Cecilia]
“Well, there’s a nameplate on it and everything. It’s only natural to feel complicated about it.” [Youki]
Inside the showcase, the robe and staff were displayed, with a nameplate on the pedestal bearing Cecilia’s name. There were naturally equipment and nameplates of Yuuga, Mikana, and Raven as well.
“For me, it just feels nostalgic.” [Youki]
Being here reminded me of the battles with them. We basically fought nonstop for roughly a month.
“I remember our first encounter, Youki-san… I was utterly defeated by your overwhelming power. I was preparing myself for death.” [Cecilia]
“Isn’t that memory a bit heavy?” [Youki]
It probably couldn’t be helped since we were enemies back then. But still, it was a bit of a shock to me since it was supposed to be a memorable first meeting.
“Back then, I never imagined that I would be touring a museum with you like this.” [Cecilia]
“Yeah, same here.” [Youki]
At that time, the thought of leaving the Demon Lord’s castle never even crossed my mind. I was holed up there, refusing to do anything.
“…Shall we move on?” [Cecilia]
“Yeah, let’s go.” [Youki]
We moved away from the replicas section and wandered through other exhibits. After a while, we found a corner labelled, ‘The Hero’s Party’s Chronicle’, and got intrigued. I was curious about their adventures and how they were depicted.
“A chronicle, I see… Some parts are probably exaggerated. If you want, I can tell you more about our journey sometime.” [Cecilia]
“Sure, I’d like that… Hmm?” [Youki]
I was about to just skim through it, but something near the end caught my eye, so I decided to take a closer look at it.
Let’s see…
The journey progressed smoothly, and the hero, Yuuga, led his party to the Demon Lord’s castle. The final battle at the Demon Lord’s castle was intense as the high-ranking demons and the Demon Lord himself had unfathomable power, but after a month-long battle, they finally seized victory.
“…What is this?” [Youki]
“That’s why it differs slightly from reality.” [Cecilia]
In truth, I was the only one they had a hard time with. The other high-ranking demons and Demon Lord were actually defeated in a single straight fight. It was probably more convenient for a story to be passed down that way, though.
“…I think you’re aware of the circumstances.” [Cecilia]
“So, I’m not mentioned publicly.” [Youki]
I supposed it would be more convenient to conceal any report concerning me. It was a mutual understanding, so I was actually grateful for that.
“That’s how history gets passed down, I guess.” [Cecilia]
“Yeah. History is like that. You never know where or how it gets tweaked over time.” [Youki]
“…True. Whether that’s a good or bad thing, I can’t say. I’m one of the ones who distorted the story, after all.” [Cecilia]
“This conversation is getting more and more complicated. Let’s move on, move on.” [Youki]
If we kept discussing this, our date would wind up as a study session instead. Although, it wasn’t really a date to begin with. Our original goal was to support Raven and Happiness’s date.
Thank you!
