Chapter 188 – I checked the letter

“Youki-kun, you’ve got a letter.”

“Oh, thanks.” [Youki]

As I was getting dressed, thinking about heading out to take on another guild mission, the innkeeper lady came into my room.

A letter for me? Didn’t something like this happen with Raven and Shike-chan? It’s probably just a thank-you note from a client, though.

“Youki-kun, you’ve been making good money lately, haven’t you? Maybe it’s time to start thinking about getting a place of your own?”

“Oh, uh, yeah. You’re right. I’ll give it some thought.” [Youki]

“Either way, I’m fine with it since you’re paying rent.” The lady chucked as she left the room.

Now that she mentioned it, I’ve been staying here for quite a while. Perhaps it’s time I should consider getting my own place. However, I should first see what this letter is about.

I pulled the letter from the envelope.

“Let’s see… ‘We are pleased to inform you that we will be holding a wedding ceremony. We hope to share a long and happy life together as husband and wife.’” [Youki]

It seemed like a wedding invitation, but who would send it to me?

“…’We would be honoured if you could attend, though we understand you must be busy. But we sincerely hope you can come, Youki-kun. Signed, Yuuga and Mikana.’ Wait, what!?” [Youki]

I tumbled onto my back in shock, the letter still in my hand. The news was so unexpected that I couldn’t even speak, my mouth hanging open.

They only started living together recently, didn’t they? Yuuga’s confession had been rushed, but it still seemed way too soon. Then again, if that’s what they wanted, they were free to make their own choices. They must’ve talked it over before deciding, so it wasn’t my place to judge. Even if it felt like a rushed marriage, that was just my personal view. I didn’t fully understand noble marriages. Though they weren’t actually nobles themselves, they were still well-known. This news might even make waves in other countries.

“Well, I guess I’ll attend.” [Youki]

I circled the attendance box.

“Youki-kun!!!”

“Whoa!?” [Youki]

As I was marking my attendance, Yuuga burst into my room without knocking. His manners hadn’t improved at all. Shouldn’t he be more mindful if he’s about to get married?

“Did you get the invitation? Can you come?” [Yuuga]

“If you’re showing up in person, what’s the point of sending the invitation? But yeah, I’ll attend- wait, hold on.” [Youki]

“What’s wrong, Youki-kun? Don’t tell me you already have plans that day?” [Yuuga]

“No, it’s not that… it’s just…” [Youki]

The wedding date wasn’t listed. I pointed it out, and Yuuga stared at the invitation.

“Ah, that’s strange. Did I forget to include it? It’s my first time writing a wedding invitation, so I must’ve been nervous.” [Yuuga]

“That’s kind of a huge mistake, don’t you think? What are you going to do? You’ve already sent them out, right?” [Youki]

Since Yuuga and Mikana were well-known, they’d likely sent the invitations to a fair number of people. Anyone who got one would definitely notice the missing date. I figured they’d either have to visit everyone personally or wait for the replies to roll in.

“Oh, don’t worry. For now, we’ve only sent invitations to a few people we really want to attend. Usually, Mikana has to run around fixing things when I mess up, so we kept it to a small circle this time. I’m just glad it didn’t turn into a total disaster. I guess that means I’ve matured, huh?” [Yuuga]

“…No comment.” [Youki]

I almost shot back a retort, questioning if he’d really grown, but I wasn’t in any position to judge him.

“Well then, I’m off to visit the people we’ve sent invitations to. You really saved me, Youki-kun. Thanks! I’ll bring the corrected invitations over later.” [Yuuga]

Yuuga left with a bright smile. If he was going to deliver them in person, what was the point of the invitations in the first place? I supposed there was no reason to oppose them settling down, but I couldn’t help but wonder if their wedding would really go smoothly. Knowing the groom, chaos had a way of following him wherever he went.

“Youki-san, are you there?”

“I knew it. Come in.” [Youki]

I heard a knock and a voice. When I opened the door, Cecilia was standing there. We hadn’t made any plan to meet, so the reason she was here was probably because…

“Sorry for dropping by unannounced. Actually, I have something to discuss with you.”[Cecilia]

“It’s about this, right?” [Youki]

I showed her the invitation.

“…So you received one too.” [Cecilia]

“Yeah, I figured you’re here because of this.” [Youki]

It seemed that Yuuga and Mikana’s marriage plans weren’t going as smoothly as expected. We both sat down, knowing this conversation would take some time.

“So, what actually happened? If Yuuga’s the cause, I’ll go track him down right now.” [Youki]

“No, that won’t help. This time, it’s Mikana’s who’s…” [Cecilia]

“Did she pass out from being too happy?” [Youki]

She finally got a confession from her childhood friend, they moved in together, and now they’re already planning a wedding. Things were moving so fast, it wouldn’t be surprising if her head were about to explode from happiness overload.

“Well, it seems like she’s struggling to keep up with how quickly everything is happening. She’s starting to question whether this is really okay. She came to me for advice three days ago, and now I get this wedding invitation. So, I’m a little confused.” [Cecilia]

“So you’re on your way to see Mikana?” [Youki]

“Yes. I thought you’d gotten the invitation too, so I was curious how you’re feeling about all this.” [Cecilia]

“How do I feel? Well, since this is the path they chose, it’s not really for us to interfere. Didn’t you say something like that before?” [Youki]

“Yes, I did. But I can’t help worrying about Mikana…” [Cecilia]

It seemed Cecilia had some complicated feelings about the situation. She was probably helping Mikana more than I realized. I’d spent a lot of time with Yuuga myself, so it made sense the girls would stick together, too.

“Hmm, when Yuuga came by earlier, he seemed really excited about the wedding. I thought Mikana felt the same way.” [Youki]

“Hero-sama was here?” [Cecilia]

“Yeah. He came to check if I’d gotten the invitation and to make sure I could attend.” [Youki]

“…Then what’s the point of sending the invitation?” [Cecilia]

“My thoughts exactly. When I pointed out the missing wedding date, he just ran off, saying he’d visit everyone he sent it to.” [Youki]

“I got an invitation, too. He’s probably heading to my place then.” [Cecilia]

“Yeah, most likely. Well, it’ll probably be best to just leave it to him. So, what should we do about Mikana? You’re going to see her now, right?” [Youki]

“Yes. Will you come with me?” [Cecilia]

At this point, I really wanted the two of them to reach the finishing line without any more doubts. Besides, there was no way I could refuse when my girlfriend asked for a favour.

“Of course. I’m not sure how much help I’ll be in a conversation between two women, but if I can do anything, I’m in!” [Youki]

“Thank you very much. Then, let’s get going.” [Cecilia]

“Yeah, just give me a moment to get ready.” [Youki]

I asked her to wait while I quickly got dressed. I was mostly ready already, so it only took a few minutes. But when I left the room, she wasn’t there. Assuming she was waiting by the inn’s entrance, I hurried out. Sure enough, she was there – but she wasn’t alone.

“Youki…”

Standing next to Cecilia was Raven. His presence could only mean one thing- he’d received the invitation as well. The timing made that obvious explanation.

“You’re here for the same reason, right?” [Youki]

“…Yeah, that’s right. I was feeling a bit uneasy. Mikana had just been talking about living together, and now, suddenly, there’s a wedding invitation. I thought maybe some kind of powerful force was at play. So, I came to see what you thought, Youki.” [Raven]

A powerful force, huh? I doubt those two are involved in any political activities. Well, maybe there’s a slight connection since Yuuga did mention asking the king for help. But if you ask me what kind of power is a play…

“It’s the power of love, plain and simple.” [Youki]

After all, Yuuga was the one who unlocked the power of the holy sword that had been dormant until then. Not even during our fight or the battle against the Demon Lord had he awakened it. It was pure, genuine love without any ulterior motives. Although knowing him, he’s also the type to push beyond his limits.

“There’s no need to worry, Raven-san. I’m heading to see Mikana now. Would you like to come along?” [Cecilia]

“That’s true. You’re a guy with a girlfriend, too, so your input would be reassuring. Can you help us out?” [Youki]

“…I’m not sure how much help I’ll be, but I’ll come with you.” [Raven]

“Raven, are you feeling okay?” [Youki]

Something seemed off. Maybe he’s just excited about making future plans. But, honestly, I think the three of us make a good team. We’ve got this.

And so, with Raven and Cecilia by my side, we headed towards Yuuga and Mikana’s love nest.
