Chapter 135 – I consulted the girl I like

“Sorry, Cecilia. I… need your help. I know it’s sudden to drop by and ask for something unreasonable like this.”  [Youki]

“Are you okay!?”  [Cecilia]

I dropped by to see Cecilia without a prior appointment as I had something important to ask her – a favour. The reason why she was so flustered and concerned was because I was in a completely battered state. Well, my battered condition was actually related to the favour I wanted to ask.

“Damn it. I let my guard down. I can’t believe I made such a mistake. I didn’t even have time to heal myself…”  [Youki]

“What kind of opponent are you up against? It’s hard to imagine you being pushed this far.”  [Cecilia]

“No, it’s not about the opponent. Anyway, I need your power, Cecilia. I can’t do this alone.”  [Youki]

I grabbed Cecilia’s hands, desperately trying to convey how serious I was. As a man, some might say it was not right to ask for help in this way, but there was no other way around it. The situation was just that dire.

“…Understood. But if it’s an opponent who could even corner you this much, I’m not sure how much help I can be…”  [Cecilia]

“No, the opponent is… wait, this is bad – they’re already here!”  [Youki]

I had already felt their presence in the vicinity. At this point, I had no choice but to rely on Cecilia.

“They’re here? Who?”  [Cecilia]

“Please help me with the persuasion!”  [Youki]

“Persuasion? What exactly did you do?”  [Cecilia]

Her expression turned into one of slight exasperation. But since she had already agreed to help, it was probably okay… probably. I could hear footsteps coming from outside the room. Since running away was a hassle at this point, I decided to confront the situation.

“The thing is, I gave Happiness and Raven a celebratory gift, but it seems they didn’t appreciate it…”  [Youki]

“Yes, and?”  [Cecilia]

“Now they’re chasing me all over the place…”  [Youki]

“Isn’t that your own fault?”  [Cecilia]

Her response was ice-cold. Sure, it was true that I acted rashly without considering their feelings. But being alone together in the dark should be a good situation for a couple, right? What exactly did they not like about it?

“…Anyway, they’re closing in on me. Please, help me mediate!”  [Youki]

“Sigh… I did agree once already, so just this time.”  [Cecilia]

“Thank you!”  [Youki]

As the negotiations were being finalized, a cold, mechanical voice came from the direction of the door.

“…Sorry, Cecilia. You have Youki in there, right? Hand him over to us, and we’ll leave the estate.”  [Raven]

“…Capture and detain.”  [Happiness]

I could feel their intense determination radiating through the door.

This is really bad. Maybe I shouldn’t have gotten Cecilia involved after all.

“For now, please come in. Let’s all calm down.”  [Cecilia]

Cecilia calmly opened the door and invited the two in. Even after they entered, it felt as though they were ready to pounce on me. The only reason they held back was probably because they were in Cecilia’s room. It was a terrifying thought.

“…Youki.”  [Raven]

“…Obliterate.”  [Happiness]

“Now, now, please have a seat. Can you tell me more about what’s going on? I was worried when I heard that Happiness-chan took a long vacation.”  [Cecilia]

“…Understood.”  [Happiness]

“And Raven-san, I’ve heard some rumours about you. They say your support among the knights has risen even higher than before. Also, some of the children at the orphanage seem to look up to you. Do you have any plans to visit them?”  [Cecilia]

“…Me?”  [Raven]

“Yes. I have tea and sweets here, so why don’t we relax and have a nice chat?”  [Cecilia]

Even as she spoke, everything was unfolding as she intended. Even though Raven and Happiness were initially reluctant, they ended up sitting down.

“…I can’t believe you’ve got Cecilia on your side.”  [Raven]

“…That’s cheating.”  [Happiness]

“No, no, it’s not about whose side she’s taking. Look, I’m really sorry.”  [Youki]

I apologized as I shrunk back in my seat. If I were to get cocky here, Cecilia might join in and all three of them would beat me to a pulp. Though, Cecilia probably wouldn’t go that far. She would probably send the two of them away and make me stay behind for a proper scolding.

“…Honestly, I was on edge the whole time, not knowing when the restraints would break. I couldn’t even force my way out.”  [Raven]

“Really? With your strength, Raven, you probably could’ve broken free if you wanted to. Didn’t you get out only after the effects wore off? Since I wasn’t there, there was no more magic supply. That means the binding power of ‘Saint Chain’ should have gradually weakened.”  [Youki]

Why didn’t he just rip through it with brute force?

“…Dense.”  [Happiness]

“Huh? Why am I the dense one?”  [Youki]

“…Love.”  [Happiness]

Happiness suddenly intertwined her arm with Raven’s, snuggling up to him. She started getting all lovey-dovey with him out of the blue in front of Cecilia and me. It was baffling since I didn’t know how things ended up like this.

“Youki-san, Raven-san didn’t resort to forceful methods because of his feelings for Happiness-chan.”  [Cecilia]

She explained as she brought over the tea and sweets. It seemed that she had been listening to our conversation while preparing them.

“Youki-san, you’ve restrained both of them together, right? If Raven-san had tried to break the ‘Saint Chain’ by force, it would have caused strain on Happiness-chan as well.”  [Cecilia]

When Cecilia confirmed this with Raven, he nodded shyly. Also, how long was Happiness planning to keep snuggling like that? Was she always this forward?

“…Lack of training?”  [Happiness]

“Training for what!?”  [Youki]

“Now, now, Youki-san. Congratulations to you both, Raven-san and Happiness-chan.”  [Cecilia]

She conveyed her heartfelt wishes to them with a warm smile.

“With that tone, it almost sounds like these two just got married.”  [Youki]

Especially after that coordinated verbal attack, the two of them never look more like a married couple.

“Youki-san…”  [Cecilia]

“I just said what came to mind.”  [Youki]

I whistled as I looked out the window. The view from Cecilia’s room always looked beautiful.

“…Youki, you’ll pay for this.”  [Raven]

“…Torn to pieces.”  [Happiness]

“Happiness, your words are genuinely terrifying.”  [Youki]

“Youki-san, you shouldn’t just say whatever comes to mind. It’s important to think before you speak.”  [Cecilia]

“Cecilia just gave me a normal reprimand!”  [Youki]

It made me wonder what our banter looked like to an outsider. In any case, while we were having such a conversation, I decided to check for any sign of presence.

No signs of any servants, good. We have some conversations that are better left unheard.

“…Well, anyway, I’ve caused a lot of trouble and worry for Youki and Cecilia. I’m sorry, and… thank you.”  [Raven]

“I really didn’t do much.”  [Cecilia]

“I don’t remember doing anything either. In fact, I think I just caused more trouble.”  [Youki]

“…No.”  [Happiness]

“…As Happiness said, if you ever need help in the future, just ask. I’ll be there for you.”  [Raven]

“…Promise.”  [Happiness]

I never expected to receive so much gratitude from this fresh, young couple. It was a stark contrast from earlier when the two mercilessly hunted me down with their perfect teamwork. Was it the power of Cecilia? Or was I just that pitiful?

“Got it. But for now, shouldn’t you focus on cherishing your time together?”  [Youki]

“Youki…”  [Raven]

“Captain…”  [Happiness]

“Create lots of memorable days, like your anniversaries. I think it’s nice to make memories like that. For example, you could create the anniversary of the first time you two slept together in the same bed, like the other day.”  [Youki]

“Youki-san, why did you have to use that day as an example?”   [Cecilia]

“Oh…”  [Youki]

The atmosphere that felt so meaningful a while ago suddenly changed. The air between them was perfect, and the tea and snacks Cecilia served were also perfect, but all the perfection was ruined by my lack of sophistication. In the end, I had to sit in seiza to reflect on my actions. The sight of Cecilia standing tall while I knelt on the ground was becoming a regular occurrence… or not. Well, our roles wouldn’t change, that was my thought. But little did I know, within a month of this event, Cecilia would be the one sitting in seiza as I comforted her.
