Chapter 164 – We witnessed the hero and lady mage’s final outcome

“Cecilia, the carriage won’t catch up at this rate. Even if we do, I’m not sure we’ll be able to stop that hero.”  [Youki]

We were riding in the carriage towards Cortia Women’s Academy, but we were falling further behind instead of catching up. It was surprising.

The hidden power of the holy sword. It’s precisely the kind of thing a hero or protagonist from a story would use. But why did it have to be released now?

“…But we couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.”  [Cecilia]

“Should I transform into my demon form and go ahead of him? I could stop him directly, but…”  [Youki]

“Please, absolutely not… I’m begging you.”  [Cecilia]

She clasped my hands and pleaded with me, looking up at me with those eyes. It was hard to resist when my girlfriend requested in such a manner. As a guy, there was no way I could say no. Cecilia didn’t seem to like it when I transformed into a demon. I didn’t particularly enjoy it either since I would have to go through the hassle of getting rid of my horns and wings afterward.

“S-Sorry. I understand.”  [Youki]

And so, we continued chasing after Yuuga in the carriage. Considering his flying speed, he should be getting tired by now. Even so, there was still no sign of him.

Even I get stiff shoulders and a tired body if I keep flying for long periods, but he has been flying for almost three hours without a break or water. Seriously, there are better ways to use that power.

“Cecilia, did Yuuga always have this much stamina?”  [Youki]

“…When Hero-sama sets his mind to something, he won’t stop.”  [Cecilia]

“That’s true…”  [Youki]

It didn’t seem like we could count on him to run out of stamina. My bad feeling was spot on, as Yuuga continued flying without a break, so we were stuck following him all the way to Cortia Women’s Academy. It took us six hours to reach there, and Yuuga didn’t rest once during the journey. His stamina, as a hero, was absolutely terrifying.

“At this rate, he’ll probably barge into the academy, shouting Mikana’s name and causing total chaos. That’s just how Yuuga operates.”  [Youki]

“This isn’t the time to be analyzing calmly…”  [Cecilia]

“Well, we’ve come this far, so maybe letting him do what he wants is better. Look, the light around him is starting to fade.”  [Youki]

Yuuga, who had been flying nearer the academy gates, gradually slowed down and finally came to a stop. He landed and leaned against the gate, seemingly with no intention of entering. Was he waiting for Mikana to come out? Cecilia and I exited our carriage and hid behind a tree, watching the situation unfold.

“Why do we need to hide?”  [Cecilia]

“We’re just observing for now. It doesn’t look like Yuuga will cause any trouble at the moment.”  [Youki]

As we watched Yuuga, a few female Cortia Women’s Academy students came outside. One of them noticed Yuuga and approached him. He wasn’t even in disguise, so it was natural that they would recognize him, not as any handsome guy, but as the hero, Yuuga. It was clear that they were aware of who he was. Now, they were bombarding him with questions. Normally, trouble was bound to happen when he was surrounded by women like this.

“Um, if you’d like, how about joining us for a meal?”

Of course, they were inviting him to dinner. Some girls even offered to take him shopping or show him around the area.

If this keeps up, Yuuga will go along with them, something will happen, and then Mikana will have to come in and fix everything… just like usual.

“Sorry, but I’m waiting for someone.”  [Yuuga]

Yuuga turned down all of their invitations. Of course, the female students were still chattering excitedly. I could tell they were all buzzing about who he was waiting for.

“Yuuga turned them down.”  [Youki]

“…This is the first time I’ve ever seen Hero-sama refuse an invitation so quickly.”  [Cecilia]

Cecilia, who was hiding with me, watched the scene in surprise. It looked like we didn’t have to worry about Yuuga after all. While he rejected the female students’ offers, the person Yuuga had been waiting for finally made her appearance. She hadn’t realized Yuuga was around, probably just noticing the gathering crowd.

“Mikana hasn’t noticed yet.”  [Cecilia]

“She’s probably just wondering why it’s so noisy. I doubt she’s imagined Yuuga’s at the center of it.”  [Youki]

“I agree. She’s likely preoccupied with tomorrow’s responsibilities as a special instructor.”  [Cecilia]

Upon closer observation, Mikana looked a little tired. She was probably thinking about her work tomorrow. After a while, Yuuga, surrounded by the overexcited girls, also noticed Mikana.

“Yuuga has noticed Mikana now. He’s pushing his way through the students.”  [Youki]

The group of students that had gathered around him was gradually breaking apart. Mikana, who seemed to have noticed the commotion, stopped and tilted her head in confusion.

“Excuse me… Let me through, please!”  [Yuuga]

“Huh?”  [Mikana]

“Mikana just reacted to Yuuga’s voice.”  [Youki]

“Yes…”  [Cecilia]

Her thoughts were easily discernible from the look of disbelief. She probably thought Yuuga couldn’t be here. When Yuuga finally emerged from the crowd, he made a beeline straight for Mikana. It would be nice to call their reunion passionate, but it was apparent that Mikana was highly confused instead.

“I came because I want to talk to you about something!”  [Yuuga]

“You came here just to talk? All the way from Minerva?”  [Mikana]

“I flew. The holy sword gave me strength… but more importantly, there’s something I need you to hear.”  [Yuuga]

Yuuga grabbed her shoulders as if to make sure she couldn’t escape, causing the female students around her to squeal in excitement. This kind of romantic scene was probably thrilling for them, especially since this was an all-girls school.

“Is Yuuga really going to say it here?”  [Youki]

“What will Hero-sama do next?”  [Cecilia]

“Hmmm…”  [Youki]

He would either apologize for everything or confess his feelings. Yuuga’s heart was clearly set on Mikana. Considering that his holy sword had awakened due to his feelings, he might have been very serious about this. It was definitely not something he was taking lightly.

“I’ve caused you so much trouble, Mikana… I might still be causing you trouble, but… I’m sorry.”  [Yuuga]

“Ah, I might have said too much last time, too… I, uh, I’m sorry too.”  [Mikana]

The mood turned somber, but it seemed like they had made up. Seeing how things were progressing, the female students looked disappointed, but Yuuga wasn’t finished yet.

“I’m sure I’ll keep causing you trouble in the future, Mikana. I don’t know exactly how many times, but definitely a lot.”  [Yuuga]

“…Are you even sorry? You sound like you’ve given up.”  [Mikana]

“I’ve done some soul-searching, but I don’t think I can manage alone. That’s why I need your help. If I cause you trouble 99 times, I want you to scold me 100 times. If it’s 999 times, then scold me 1000 times…”  [Yuuga]

“Wait, just how long am I supposed to put up with you, Yuuga!?”  [Mikana]

“Forever… forever, by my side.”  [Yuuga]

Mikana finally realized it after looking at Yuuga’s earnest gaze. Her childhood friend, who had never displayed this kind of behaviour, was clearly trying to confess his feelings.

“Stay with me… Yuuga.”  [Mikana]

“Mikana…”  [Yuuga]

Yuuga looked like he had made up his mind, while Mikana also seemed to have grasped what he wanted to convey.

The sound of someone swallowing nervously echoed, and even the female students watching them were glued to the scene. Cecilia and I, however, were relatively calm. We had anticipated this moment, after all. Cecilia, too, seemed relieved, probably because she had been worried about them. I had been running around for Yuuga’s sake, so I was glad things seemed to be heading in the right direction. Even Raven, who wasn’t here, would likely congratulate them once he heard about this.

Well, now that it’s just between Yuuga and Mikana, it might be time for us to leave…

“Let’s get married.”  [Yuuga]

A high-pitched scream erupted from the female students.

“Cecilia… Yuuga just skipped all the steps.”  [Youki]

“It’s not unusual to jump to marriage. However, considering their relationship, I think it would have been better for them to grow closer first.”  [Cecilia]

“Well, you’re not exactly wrong, though.”  [Youki]

This was probably where Yuuga’s turn really began. Perhaps because Mikana hadn’t responded, he started pressing on relentlessly.

“I’ve already settled things with the girls who had feelings for me.”  [Yuuga]

The female students began murmuring in shock.

“I asked the king to take care of any diplomatic issues that might arise from our marriage.”  [Yuuga]

The female students grew excited.

“I already paid my respect to your parents and asked for their permission.”  [Yuuga]

The female students were even more stirred than before.

“As for the venue, I wanted to decide it with you, so I haven’t done that yet, but… here.”  [Yuuga]

Yuuga pulled out a small box from his pocket, and just as I suspected, a ring was revealed when he opened the box. The impact of words left Cecilia and me speechless. I finally understood why he hadn’t taken any action for two weeks. He had been preparing everything behind the scenes meticulously.

“Of course, it might not happen yet. It all depends on Mikana’s answer now.”  [Youki]

Yuuga had stopped just short of a point of no return, leaving things within a recoverable range.

“Cecilia… what do you think?”  [Youki]

“With things progressed this far, I believe, in Hero-sama’s determination.”  [Cecilia]

“He thinks he can just pull back just barely, huh? But what if Mikana rejects him?”  [Youki]

Knowing the king, he might let it slide, but…

“… There were many girls who admired Hero-sama, so retaliation could be frightening. And this is sure to become a big rumour.”  [Cecilia]

“What’s going to happen?”  [Youki]

It all depended on Mikana’s response, but she was still looking down. I couldn’t see her face, but she was muttering something. Yuuga seemed to be waiting for her patiently, but even his patience had limits.
