Chapter 91 – I consulted my friend and the lady mage

I have decided to learn more about the person I like, but how exactly should I go about following Cecilia without becoming a stalker? Is just following someone an act of stalking? If I were to use the ‘Vanishing Wave’ to make myself invisible and tail her… No, that’s still stalking. If I were to make myself invisible while observing her private life from her room… No, if I get caught, the knights will be called in, and I’ll end up in jail for sure.

“This is bad. I’ll end up committing crimes if I go on.” [Youki]

I muttered to myself while I brainstormed for a much more peaceful method.

“Sorry, could I ask you a question?”

“Huh? Ack, Raven!” [Youki]

As my hand was suddenly gripped, I turned around and found myself face to face with Raven. Judging by his attire, he was patrolling the town as a knight. If he had overheard my earlier words, I could be in serious trouble.

“Youki, I don’t know what happened, but a knight’s duty is to prevent an incident before it happens. Let me know what’s going on, just in case.” [Raven]

“Are you serious…” [Youki]

I was pulled off from the conspicuous road to a back alley.

He told me to spill the beans, but would it really be okay to tell him what’s on my mind?

Seemingly for record-keeping purposes, Raven took out documents and checked off the items. It looked similar to a serious prosecution.

“Firstly, when you said what you said earlier, what was in your mind?” [Raven]

“…I was thinking of the person I like.” [Youki]

Raven’s hand, which had been swiftly moving the pen across the document, came to a stop. A look of hesitation crossed his face as he tilted his head and then resumed writing. Judging from the movement of his hand, he seemed to be drawing question marks.

“Let me change my question. Did you intend to execute what you said earlier?” [Raven]

“I did think about it since it was the only option left. I ended up blurting it out loud, but I never truly thought of going through with it.” [Youki]

Even though I wound up voicing out that negligent remark in the middle of a crowded city, I haven’t actually committed the act. I was sure that Raven wouldn’t suspect me of breaking the law as well.

“I see. Well, since it’s you, I think it’ll be okay. Sorry for taking up your time. I have to carry out my duty.” [Raven]

“No sweat. The fault is mine for saying all those things.” [Youki]

Raven looked through the documents, probably making sure that the details were safe to be submitted. I was thankful for that, but I decided to be more prudent in the future. I shouldn’t be making any careless remarks in public.

“Lastly, going back to my previous question, what were you thinking of doing?” [Raven]

“Stalking.” [Youki]

“…Sorry, I think I’d like to hear more about that from you.” [Raven]

In the end, I was escorted to the knight’s headquarter for further interrogation. I wound up explaining it to Raven privately in his room.

I thought Raven trusted me, but I guess not.

Probably because I looked really troubled, he invited me out to have a talk at a later date and also advised me not to keep my concerns to myself. Given everything that had happened recently, he might have wanted to discuss about that as well.

And so, after I was released from the interrogation, I returned directly to my inn. Ignoring the visible cracks on Gai’s body, I dove into my bed, drifting off to sleep.

For the next few days, I felt uneasy the entire time until I met Raven again. By the way, Gai’s wound still hasn’t healed even after several days – his physical wound, in a literal sense.

On the promised day, I went to the usual cake shop to meet Raven, however…

“Why are you here?” [Youki]

“What? Is there a problem with me being here?” [Mikana]

I was expecting to meet only Raven, but Mikana was there as well. There was a half-eaten cake and teas in front of them, so it didn’t seem like they had met by chance.

‘It is better to have more people who are acquainted with Cecilia joining. We can get more input.’ Raven conveyed his opinion through his written note.

“As for you, could you just start communicating with your voice?! I won’t think of making fun of you anymore!” [Mikana]

In response, Raven merely showed her a note that read, ‘Sorry’. I had hoped he would change after the mermaid incident, but it appeared that there was still a strong wall around his heart.

“Meh, well, I can’t force you to talk. We are not here to discuss about the swordsman today anyway.” [Mikana]

Could you stop grinning while looking at me? But, I guess I’ll need to exercise patience with her if she’s willing to cooperate. Let’s just bear with her.

“Sorry for troubling you. I should have bucked up.” [Youki]

“…Are you picking a fight with me?” [Mikana]

Her brows furrowed in anger, a stark contrast to her earlier expression. It seemed my intention had backfired instead.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have been rude to one of the hero’s party members.” [Youki]

“…The way you say it kinda pisses me off. You’re not apologetic at all, are you?” [Mikana]

Resting her chin on her hand, her face still frowned in displeasure. Raven, on the other hand, only sighed at our exchange.

Why does our interaction end up this way the moment we meet? The two of us probably have a bad compatibility.

“Okay, enough with the joke. Let’s get to the main topic.” [Youki]

“Hold it, why are you deciding that for us?!” [Mikana]

‘Any further exchange will be unproductive. Sorry, but could you back down?’ Mikana furrowed her brow as she looked at the note from Raven, but perhaps feeling that it would be a waste of time, she became quiet.

“Now that you’ve calmed down, let’s get the ball rolling. So, what should we discuss?” [Youki]

“We’re going to talk about how to stop you from committing a crime, commoner.” [Mikana]

“Ugh -!” [Youki]

Her words cut deep into my heart. Raven, have you already told her what happened a few days ago?

When I tried to confirm my suspicions, I noticed that Raven was already showing me a note with three words – ‘Taken care of’. Did the two of them have a talk about this before our discussion today?

“Cecilia is my precious companion and also my friend now. I won’t allow a stalker to roam around her.” [Mikana]

“Don’t label me as a stalker! Also, are you even the type who cares about your friends?” [Youki]

From my point of view, though it might sound rude, even Yuuga didn’t look like the type who cared about those around him. However, his character has probably changed after he consulted us. As for Mikana, there wasn’t much information about her, and I didn’t have much contact with her either. So, I wasn’t sure of her true personality.

“You’ve been really rude since earlier… If you keep this up, no girls will like you. It’s a huge demerit to be tactless, don’t you know that?” [Mikana]

“Ugh, sorry. You’re right.” [Youki]

“I don’t know about Cecilia, but if even getting involved feels so troubling, it could be a problem. Once an impression is formed, it’s not easy to change it, right?” [Mikana]

Mikana threw a glance at Raven after saying her piece. In this case, gender was irrelevant.

‘Sorry’. Raven apologized to Mikana with his note.

I wonder when will Raven be able to join in a conversation. Hopefully, in a not-too-distant future.

“Raven aside, I’m sure Cecilia and I will be fine. Even if I did something stupid, she still forgave me in the end.” [Youki]

“That’s similar to giving up. Apologizing, forgiving, apologizing, and forgiving again. If this cycle continues, Cecilia will soon get tired of you.” [Mikana]

“…Really?” [Youki]

I can’t imagine a goddess like Cecilia would grow weary of anyone. However, it is undeniable that she is still a human being. If I keep playing pranks like this, it might spell doom for our relationship.

“You’re starting to look a little pale. Are you okay? What I said is only a hypothetical scenario. I’m just telling you to keep that in mind.” [Mikana]

“I-I see. T-That’s right. Ahahaha…” [Youki]

I laughed dryly as I stared at the ceiling. I could imagine Cecilia looking at me with a cold look in her eyes.

“I didn’t come here today to pick on you, so calm down. At this rate, the whole purpose of why I came here will be completely reversed.” [Mikana]

“Aren’t you here to let me know how badly I fare from a woman’s perspective?” [Youki]

“…Am I such an evil woman in your eyes? Since you helped advise me previously, I just want to repay my debt to you.” [Mikana]

“Ah, yeah that did happen.” [Youki]

That was when I was banned from seeing Cecilia for two weeks. I had planned to consult Raven about my problem, but before I knew it, it turned into a love consultation for Mikana. Her relationship with Yuuga and Cecilia was not going well, so she was deeply concerned.

“I asked if I could also offer to help since the swordsman will be offering you advice. And his answer was… umm, ok. That was the kind of reply I felt.” [Mikana]

Mikana explained with a wry smile.

This might end up becoming an awkward situation. It would be hard to ask for any pointers at this rate. Even Raven looked down apologetically.

In the end, Duke was right.

“That’s why, the swordsman and I will help you with your problem this time.” [Mikana]

Raven displayed a newly written memo that read, ‘Leave it to me’, confidently. From an outside perspective, it was reassuring to receive assistance from two members of the hero’s party – even if it was assistance in love.

“That’s reassuring. Alright, let me start my story.” [Youki]

“Leave it to us. But, before we go on, let me tell you this. I won’t be divulging any of her personal details. In my opinion, you should discover the information yourself, either through a date with her, or ask her yourself.” [Mikana]

“I-Is that so?” [Youki]

I don’t understand a woman’s heart. I think it’s important to prepare beforehand, and even Duke told me to plan a date that matches what Cecilia likes, but… I guess it’s no good.

“Will you give her a gift based on information that you heard from someone else? No, right? In the end, you’ll need to be the one making your own decision.” [Mikana]

“No, I won’t be doing that. So, what are you going to tell me then?” [Youki]

“I’ll be telling you about a side of Cecilia that you haven’t seen… Well, it’s about the time when we were travelling in the hero’s party.” [Mikana]

“Wow, I’m curious about that. I think I’ve only heard about how Cecilia got mad whenever Yuuga got out of control.” [Youki]

“…That did happen as well. But, what I’ll be telling you about are the other legends concerning Cecilia.” [Mikana]

“Legends? You’re making it sound like Cecilia was the hero.” [Youki]

“I don’t think maintaining the hero’s party would have been possible without her.” [Mikana]

‘…Indeed.’ Raven agreed with his note as he nodded his head repeatedly signifying the importance of Cecilia in the party.

A healer was probably an important role in a party, but there seemed to be other reasons as well.

Now this should be an interesting story.
