Chapter 08: I made a friend decide (part 1)

“…I’m back.”  [Raven]

It had been three days since Raven took action alone. As there hadn’t been a single bit of news from him during that time, his return to the inn was unexpected. Judging from the horribly dark circles under his eyes, he must have not gotten much sleep due to the investigation.

“Welco– hold on, are you okay? You’re staggering there, aren’t you?!”  [Youki]

“…I’ve managed to extract loads of things from them, but I was still short of the most crucial piece of information. None of them knew where the hideout really was, so I had to search for it on my own by foot.”  [Raven]

“If that is the case, you should have come back and consult us!”  [Youki]

“…Since I’ve decided to handle everything myself, I’ll shoulder all the responsibilities from the beginning to the end. That’s who I am.”  [Raven]

Was it due to his strong sense of responsibility as the Captain of the Knight? Although, I had hoped he would consult us first. Happiness seemed to be in a daze ever since we lost contact with him. It was agonizing since even when I tried to cheer her up, my effort was not going anywhere at all.

“Well, if you found their hideout then it’s fine… What happened to those guys?”  [Youki]

“I handed them over to the knights in this town.”  [Raven]

He then showed me the memo he used at that time. Written on the memo was: “I leave these guys to you. These people are important suspects who are involved in this town’s case.”

“A lot of important parts are not explained in this memo. Did the knights really comprehend it?”  [Youki]

“Yeah. ‘Leave it to us, Captain Raven!’ That was what they said readily.”  [Raven]

“…Is it because of Raven’s popularity among the knights? I am baffled by this.”  [Youki]

“It has been a long time since I last came to this place. If I had the time, I’d like to train here, but we’re fighting against time now. Let’s go to their hideout as soon as we can…”  [Raven]

“…No.”  [Happiness]

Happiness grabbed onto Raven’s upper arm to stop him.

I was of the same opinion as her, so I decided to explain it before he had a chance to argue.

“I know why you’re being impatient, but it would be better for you to take a rest first. Or rather, just take a nap now!” [Youki]

“But, if we don’t help them soon…”  [Raven]

“…Sleep, now?”  [Happiness]

The scene was very much like how a mother tried to get her son to sleep early… And, I’m sorry to say this but, they don’t look like lovers at all currently. Possibly due to his fatigue, I could hear him snoring in his sleep shortly after.

“Good grief. He’s just pushing himself too hard.”  [Youki]

“…Yes.”  [Happiness]

This incident might have been quite an ordeal for Raven. That said, pushing himself beyond what his body could handle because of this was a completely different story.

“So, Happiness, who was the one who taught you that move earlier?”  [Youki]

“…Move?”  [Happiness]

“Stop playing dumb. I’m talking about that move you used to convince Raven to rest.”  [Youki]

“…Head of maid.”  [Happiness]

Hearing Sophia-san’s name convinced me. When I recalled the look Sophia-san had when she was angry, a chill ran down my spine.

“Hold on a minute. Has Sophia-san ever shown such an expression before? Happiness, that pleading look you had on your face earlier, was that taught by Sophia-san?”  [Youki]

“…Tiel.”  [Happiness]

It seemed that the culprit was Tiel-chan this time. It wasn’t surprising for a ‘Gai obsessed yandere’ like her to know such a move. Although, I would’ve preferred that she refrain from teaching my former subordinate anything strange.

“Try not to learn too much. It’s tough.” [Youki]

Not only for me, but even more so for Raven.
